Sensitivity of river catchments to discharge-controlled dissolved carbon export: a study of eight catchments in southern Patagonia

چکیده
Abstract Understanding the role of catchment sensitivity to dissolved carbon export aquatic systems is crucial predict future changes in fluxes under changing climatic conditions. We present 1-year variations organic (DOC) and inorganic (DIC) concentrations eight river catchments differing size (3–300 km 2 ), morphology (steep flat), vegetation cover (grassland, forest peatland) along a precipitation gradient southern Patagonia, Chile. The results show large differences between terms DOC (2–47 mg L −1 ; 1–44 tons −2 year ) DIC (0.1–38 1–5 response discharge. Small s teep hosting rich soils peatlands were most sensitive showed highest fastest release if evaluated on per unit area basis. Here, rain events caused rapid exponential increase release, while decreased exponentially. A negative correlation reveals minor importance production through mineralization catchments. Catchments had low discharged controlled attributed their high hydrological buffer capacity. Similarly, flat relatively dry Patagonian steppe have comparatively but short-term accumulated during periods. In conclusion, morphology, rather than or cover, was found major influence release.

Application of Discriminant Analysis to Estimate Instantaneous Maximum Discharge for Catchments in West of Iran
Accurate estimate of flood flows at selected return periods is a fundamental step in flood control and design of hydraulic structures. Due to the inadequacy or unavailability of flood flow records in several western catchments of Iran, traditional regional flood frequency methods lead to remarkable estimate errors, particularly for long return periods. In this research, discriminant analysis is...

The application of metaldehyde to agricultural catchment areas to control slugs and snails has caused severe problems for drinking water supply in recent years. In the River Thames catchment, metaldehyde has been detected at levels well above the EU and UK drinking water standards of 0.1 μg l-1 at many sites across the catchment between 2008 and 2015. Metaldehyde is applied in autumn and winter...
متن کاملPhosphorus export from catchments: a global view
We reviewed global P export and its controlling factors from 685 world rivers. We used available continuous (runoff, rainfall, catchment area, % land use, and population density) and discrete (runoff type, soil type, biome, dominant land use, dominant type of forest, occurrence of stagnant water bodies in catchment, and Gross Product per Capita [GPC]) variables to predict export of P fractions....
